What can I expect when working with a designer?

The first step in working with a designer is an initial consultation. With decorating or renovation work, the consultation is the first step in understanding existing conditions, such as, what is there, how it currently functions, what the owners like and do not like about the space. The information learned is used to prepare a proposal, which includes a cost estimate for design services. New construction projects follow a similar process, with a review of any available architectural drawings at the consultation.

Do you have a particular style as a designer?

My style is best described as the harmony between a few key elements: the architectural design of the home, the homeowners’ personalities, and how the home should make its dwellers feel. Sometimes this creates a style that leans more modern or traditional, but often lands in a place unique to the project.

Well crafted and thoughtfully designed furnishings never go out of style, whether old or new. Materials like solid wood, forged metals, stone, and rattan can ground more ornate elements like art, collectibles, fabrics, and wall coverings. Within this framework, it is possible to create rooms with unique character, while also relating to the rest of the home. Authentic style comes from simply telling stories. Consider me as your spatial illustrator and editor, with you as the author.

The architect should strive continually to simplify; the ensemble of the rooms should then be carefully considered that comfort and utility may go hand in hand with beauty.
